On the Hunt Again

May-31-2008 By Tish

Instead of singing the song on the road again, I just can’t wait to get on the road again…I’m singing on the hunt again, I just can’t wait to get on the hunt again. There I just had my dork moment for the day :-)

I’m once again looking for a new theme for my blog. I know I know…I just changed it not that long ago. But I need something that has buttons across the top for my pages. I need something that has maybe 2 sidebars instead of just one because I’m so flipping addicted to buttons lately that I’m running out of room for them!

And I decided I HATE the picture I used in my header so I’m pretty sure I’ll need a new header too. I want something ‘fun’ so maybe a pic of Caleb and I. I don’t know. We’ll see.

So once again the hunt is on for that ‘perfect’ theme for me. UGH! I wish I would stop being so picky about things. Actually I wish I would stop finding all this silly buttons that I like.

27 Dresses

Sometimes I just enjoy alone time and today is one of those! Caleb left to go to his dad’s earlier and my plan was to sit and do work all day on the computer but I wasn’t feeling ‘it’. I knew that I needed some me time to just chill out for a couple hours. I was in the mood for some chic flicks…gotta love chic flicks :-) I took a nice walk up to the video store and rented 27 Dresses and PS I Love You.

I was going to watch PS I Love You first but I opted to skip it for right now because I was already feeling a tad bit emotional (me emotional? no way! LMAO) and everyone has said that this a big ole tear jerker. So I went for 27 Dresses first.

I knew I was going to love it (27 Dresses) because everyone that’s seen it has said it was good plus Katherine Heigl (who plays Izzie on Grey’s Anatomy) is awesome and I love her. And yep I did I totally loved it…loved loved loved it! And it didn’t hurt that James Marsden was pretty nice eye candy to look at throughout the movie ;-)

The funny thing is I chose this movie because I thought it was one that I wouldn’t cry watching. WRONG! I cried. I definitely giggled more than cried but I still cried. I laughed so hard at one point during the movie when Jane (Katherine) finally stood up for herself and got ticked at her sister. I don’t remember the exact words she said but it was great. Her sister cut up their mother’s wedding dress because she thought it was too old fashioned to wear it as was. Jane & her sis got in a big ole fight & Tess (the sister) told Jane that she wouldn’t hurt anyone because she wouldn’t hurt a fly and especially not her because they were sisters. Jane got up and said that was yesterday, today you are just a bi*ch that cut up my mothers wedding dress and pissed me off. I busted out laughing because it was hilarious but also because I saw myself in her. I’ve always been one of those never say no type people but eventually you get to the point that you can’t take it anymore. So yeah it was just a great part of the movie and I laughed so hard because it sounded hilarious when she said it!

Should I be Worried?

I’m getting a little concerned with how rapidly Caleb has been gaining weight over the last month. He went off his ADHD medicine and got his appetite back which is a great thing but now he has a ferocious appetite that seems to never end. Seriously I’m shocked at how much food the boy can eat. I know he’s probably going through a growth spurt and that will cause him to eat more too but he’s gained 14 pounds! His pants are all really tight on him and he gets so mad when he tries to put them on and they are either so tight they cut into his stomach or he can’t button them.

I try to ’schedule’ his eating. So for instance when he gets home from school I’ll let him have a snack and then we’ll have dinner later on and then he gets one more snack before he goes to bed. But it doesn’t seem to be enough for him. He wants more and more and more. Last night he wanted hamburger helper for dinner so I made it & he ate the WHOLE box of it all by himself! One whole box of hamburger helper by himself…isn’t that a lot of food for a 9 year old boy????

He has always been on the ’stocky’ side. He’s not chubby or fat by any means but he has really gotten a belly on him lately and I don’t know if I should be concerned or if this is just a phase he’s going through. I don’t want to not let him eat if he’s hungry but I don’t want to keep seeing him gaining weight this quickly either - that can’t be healthy.

So should I be concerned?????

Why I Love Working from Home

May-29-2008 By Tish

PhotobucketI was tagged for another blog meme by three different people so I guess I better get off my rump and get this posted :-) I was tagged by Marie, Mary and Alyssa in response to Kelly’s new meme of why I love being a WAHM (work at home mom). Oh that’s such a loaded statement! There are so many reasons I love being a WAHM. This week I’ll share three reasons and next week I’ll share a couple more.

The three F’s behind why I love being a WAHM:

Flexibility ~ Being able to drop off and pick Caleb up from school is priceless. Especially after school when I see his face light up with a big ole grin from ear to ear and a sparkle in his eyes when he sees me pull up. And to see him dash away from his friends to come jump in the car makes my heart swell and reminds me that’s what being a WAHM is all about :-)

Financial Freedom
~ By that I mean as a WAHM who owns my own Virtual Assistant business I have the freedom to set my own pay. I’m not anywhere near being financially free (where I don’t have to worry about meeting ends every month because the cash flow will be above & beyond the basic necessitites or where if something goes wrong with my car the money is there to fix it, etc) but I’m heading in the right direction and that’s what matters. I’ve finally realized that my time is valuable and that I’m worth a lot more than what I used to charge. With that realization came the freedom I have as my own boss to give myself a raise. Now I just need to work on bringing in some retainer cients and new clients with my new rates and I’ll be good to go :-)

Fun
~ I have a lot of fun as a WAHM. Yes it’s a lot of hard work but it’s a lot of fun too. I jam to music while I work (unless it’s a transcription or writing project then I can’t listen to music while I do it). I Twitter with all my friends (which is fun but sometimes distracting…lol). The WAHM community has all sorts of blog memes, contests, podcasts, etc that provide fun each and every day.

I think my third answer was kind of lame sounding but there I go analyzing and over thinking things again. It’s simply my opinion on why I love being a WAHM so I am flipping the switch and not thinking about the answer anymore. And I was trying to have fun with this meme that’s why I came up with three F’s for today’s answer - cause it’s dorky but fun ;-)

*Edited to add - I’m such a bad blog meme player! I totally forgot to tag a couple other WAHM’s to play along. Erika Geiss reminded me on twitter so I told her that meant she had to play along so that’s one tag. Hmmm…now to think of a couple more. Ok I think Shannon Smith and Tricia Gardner should play along too.

I’ve Been Tagged

May-27-2008 By Tish

My friend Heather over at Desperately Seeking Sanity tagged me to play along. And seems how you all know how much I like being tagged I just had to play along! Plus I wouldn’t want to disappoint Heather now would I? :-) Actually I like being tagged to play along, I’m a dork like that.

Favorite person (outside family)?
My best friend. Even though we’ve had our ups and downs and she’s hurt me & I’ve hurt her, she’s still my favorite person. We’ve been best friends since 1991 and we’ve literally been through EVERYTHING together - the good, the bad and the ugly.

Favorite food?
Chinese popped into my head but I haven’t had it in so long that I guess that would scratch that thought. Then I thought Mexican but I think seafood beats out Mexican. And actually the only seafood I eat is shrimp so that really wouldn’t be the whole ‘class’ of seafood. I guess I don’t know.

Quirks about you?
LOL what kind of question is this? Jeez where to start…well everyone knows the issue I have with bread crumbs in my butter but I’ll mention it again because it annoys me to no end (although I did open the butter today to see that my darling son left a bunch of bread crumbs in there last night when he made peanut butter & jelly and I was surprised to see that it didn’t bug me all that much & I actually used the ‘clean’ part of the butter & left the crumbs there! Shocking I know!).

The toilet paper. This has also been mentioned before but it’s worth mentioning again ;-) The TP has to be put on the holder so that when you pull it, it rolls from the top instead of the bottom (did that make any sense?).

Then there is laundry. I have a certain way I fold my towels & wash cloths. I also have a specific way that I fold under garments, t-shirts, etc.

Man now that I’ve looked back on this question & read my answers - I think I’m a bit on the anal side! Jeez!
