Do You Believe in Miracles?

Dec 18

I’ve always said I did. I’ve always thought I did. But now I KNOW I do.

Recent events around here have left me overwhelmed and wondering when, if ever, I was going to get a break. My old car broke down and I had to get rid of it. My new van of about 2 weeks was broke down and causing some huge stress in my life. Transmission issues isn’t just a minor problem.

I had to get my van into a mechanic on Tuesday so he could check it over and hook it up to one of those thingy majigys (you know those one things that they hook up to your car it tells them a code for what’s wrong). In other words it’s one of those little computer do dads.

The mechanic said unfortunately with this being an older van it doesn’t give me specific details like it does on newer vehicles (yeah thanks bud I know I’m driving an antique here but you didn’t need to point it out). He reset some codes and said well I think I’ve found the problem (and for the life of me I can’t remember what he told me but I do remember that it started with a C).

I asked the dreaded question “how much am I looking at?”

His answer made the tears well up in my eyes “you are looking at $300 and if I was a good sales man I would tell you to go that route. But I know times are hard right now for every one and well it’s almost Christmas so I can put a used part on for $100″.

I totally could have hugged that man….until he said “I don’t know that this will fix the problem but I’m pretty sure”.

Pretty sure and positive are 2 entirely different things. But I liked him because he could have made a $300 sale but he didn’t instead he offered a used part.

Here’s where the miracle thing comes in. The big man upstairs knows how stressed I’ve been lately and how a $100 repair bill, even though it was better than $300, was just adding to the stress. I had a lengthy phone conversation with a lady from church yesterday afternoon and she said you know you have to give all your problems to God. Yeah I know that it’s just a matter of doing it. It’s hard. Really hard. But I did it. I told God all my problems were in his hands including the silly new (to me) van that I haven’t even had a month.

My van was scheduled to go into the mechanic this morning. Except the most amazing thing happened. It’s working perfectly fine. No issues what so ever. None. Nada. Zilch! I wanted to drive it more than just a few blocks and I had to go out to the church today so that was a perfect way to ‘test’ drive it because the church is about 20 minutes from here and I have to take the express way to get there. But it drove beautifully!

I called the mechanic to tell him I wouldn’t be bringing it in and he was just as flabergasted as everyone else. Some say that something in the transmission could have froze because it got so cold the other night. But I say it has more to do with the man upstairs than anything. He truly can make miracles happen even with something as trivial and silly as a broken vehicle!
