What Makes You Happy?
Apr 23
I was having a conversation with a friend the other night and she asked me:
What will make you happy?
My answer?
I don’t know.
That was kind of a cop out answer and I did eventually rattle of a few things. But after we got off the phone it really made me stop and think about my life.
A lot of things are changing. I think I’m changing to. Sometimes, I don’t recognize me which is weird because I still feel like I don’t know who me even is so how can I think I’m changing if I don’t even know who me is? Does that even make sense?
Soon I’ll go from being a 24/7 mom to a tween to a 4 day a month mom to a tween. Talk about a major adjustment and “shell shock” to my system! It’s going to be weird. I’m going to miss him like crazy. But it’s going to be good too – not just for him but me. He’s so excited to be able to be with his brother every day (and his dad and step mom). It’s going to be good for our relationship too. I love my son more than words can ever express but we have a difficult relationship too. I think it’s time that he needs his dads authoritativeness on a daily basis versus the every other weekend thing right now.
There’s other changes going on to but they are things I can’t talk about here. It’s exciting/scary all rolled into one. It’s just so weird thinking about all the changes and possibilities now that I won’t have the responsibility of being a full-time mom. I still feel guilty thinking about spending so much time focusing on ME but maybe it’s time. I’ve spent the last 12 years so focused on my son that I got ‘lost’ in the shuffle.
So what will make me happy?
Here’s a list of things I came up with:
- becoming a member of the church I’ve been going to for awhile now
- becoming more involved in church
- volunteering at a local pregnancy crisis center
- blogging/writing
- get involved with a singles group & make some friends with people that are single – don’t get me wrong I love my friends I already have but 99% of them are married and I just want a few friends that are single
- traveling – specifically to places where I can wake up and go to bed ‘on’ the beach with the ocean waves crashing in the background
- being more social
- getting back into scrap booking
- reading more
- learning something new
- trying out Zumba like I’ve been talking about forever
- taking a country line dancing class
- taking my son on a vacation just him and I – even if it’s only for a weekend getaway somewhere – something fun that he’s always wanted to do
- going into leadership with my Avon business
- walking the Mackinac Bridge during one of their annual Labor Day bridge walks even though this bridge is scary!
- playing on a softball team again
- Signing up and doing another 5k race – read about my 1st 5k experience here
- doing more for our deployed soldiers
- going away for a couple days all by myself and unplugging from the world and everyone
- going to Cedar Point and riding roller coasters – I’m a total coaster junkie!
- learning to love myself for me – faults and all!
- and of course the one thing that I’ve wanted for a loooong time – a husband
I was surprised that once I started writing, so many things were coming to me! That’s a pretty big list but I’m sure there’s even more things to be added but this is a great starting point. Just thinking about all the above things make me smile – that has to be a good sign right?
So, I’m curious what makes you happy?

Ohh good list! Sounds like you have a lot of great plans ahead for yourself and your son. I think it’s all working out as it’s supposed to.
At this time in my life I am totally content and happy in all areas (although I could stand to lose another 90 lbs LOL). It took a while to get to this awesome place but I’m so glad I made it LOL
Things that make me happy:
-wonderful supportive hubby (there ARE amazing men in this world)
-working out
-the beach (Jamaica to be more specific)
-travel
-animals (I am so ready for a few dogs and cats, just waiting for Kev to give the sign he’s ready)
-love that I can make a living working from home (never knew how fulfilling it could be)
-I love roller coasters too! One day I would love to visit every theme park out there ha ha
-Swimming with dolphins and stingray’s would take me over the moon
and the list goes on.
Life is GREAT!
Angie´s last [type] ..Earth Day Ideas
Angie – Maybe one day I’ll find ONE of those good men that are out there
But right now, I’m content being single…for the most part
You have an awesome list going too! I’ve always wanted to swim with the dolphins..that would be the ultimate thing…should add that to my list
